Volleyball Recap: Mohawk Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Mohawk had already won eight in a row and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains as they made off with a 3-0 victory. The Warriors have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Chieftains, too.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Mohawk was: they took every set by at least ten points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-1, 25-15, 25-8.

Leading Mohawk to victory were Emerson Gurney and Mallory Brickner. Gurney had 15 digs and two assists, while Brickner had ten digs and three aces. Gurney has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 18 times she's played.

They weren't the only good servers: Mohawk was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces every time they've taken the court this season.

Mohawk's record is now 19-4. As for Hopewell-Loudon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Mohawk didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Old Fort on the 20th. Hopewell-Loudon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
