Basketball Game Preview: Vassar Vulcans vs. Millington Cardinals

Vassar is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Millington is on a eight-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Vassar Vulcans will welcome the Millington Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

While Vassar didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They enjoyed a cozy 66-50 win over Marlette on Monday. Given the Vulcans' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while the Red Raiders are ranked 235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Austin Long continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 11 of 16 on his way to 30 points and three steals. Long is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Brown, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds.

Vassar was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Millington didn't have too much trouble with Marlette on Friday as they won 75-56.

Vassar's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Millington, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
