Softball Recap: Arlington Comes Up Short

Arlington had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 8-9 to make it five. They lost 14-3 to the Poly Bears. The Lions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bears from their previous meeting back in May of 2021.

Delaney Perez and Ryleigh Pliego did some serious damage despite the final result: Perez went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Pliego went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Poly, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-7. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Poly's side, Marley Audoma made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Audoma has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Violet Espin, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Cassandra Ayala, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Arlington will be playing in front of their home fans against Liberty at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Poly, they have already played their next game, a 9-5 win against JW North on the 17th.
