Baseball Recap: Tascosa Comes Up Short

Tascosa had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 16-12 to make it five. They fell just short of the Coronado Mustangs by a score of 9-8. The Rebels were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 7-3.

As for Coronado, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

For Coronado's part, Matt Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on 13 hits.

At the plate, Bodie Pope and Jaden Lira did most of the damage at the plate: Pope went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Lira got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave Pope a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Phoenix Vera, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

As of now, neither Tascosa nor Coronado have any future games scheduled.
