The Apollo Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Castle Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Apollo's pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so Castle's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Apollo took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over Madisonville-North Hopkins.
Grayson Smith made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Carter Kimmel looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Apollo is undefeated when Kimmel allows two or fewer earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Ross Milburn was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jagger Pate, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Castle owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Wednesday. They came out on top against Southridge by a score of 3-0. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won eight in a row.
Apollo pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Castle, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Apollo came out on top in a nail-biter against Castle in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
