Softball Recap: Lake Brantley Makes It 11 in a Row at Home

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Lake Brantley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Horizon Hawks 7-6. The victory was familiar territory for the Patriots, who have now won six games in a row.

Lauren Compton spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rylin Sprague, who went 4-for-5 with two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Stella Christie, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Lake Brantley's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Horizon, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Brantley will face off against Foundation Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Horizon, they will challenge Apopka at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hawks 2, the Blue Darters 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
