Softball Game Preview: Cambria-Friesland Hilltoppers vs. Montello Hilltoppers

Cambria-Friesland will face off against Montello at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cambria-Friesland has ten straight victories, Montello has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Cambria-Friesland was able to grind out a solid win over Horicon, taking the game 5-2.

Enya Heller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rayna Helmer, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Zoi Sabol, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Montello came up short against Princeton/Green Lake on Tuesday, falling 18-1.

Cambria-Friesland pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Montello, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12-1.

Cambria-Friesland took their victory against Montello in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 20-0 score. Will Cambria-Friesland repeat their success, or does Montello has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
