Football Recap: Mt. Vernon Sets Scoring Season-High Against North Posey

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Vernon). They strolled past the North Posey Vikings with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 54-37. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 35-28 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Despite the loss, North Posey saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bret Buecher rushed for 235 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Carter Schickel, who threw for 199 yards and three touchdowns.

The win made it two in a row for Mt. Vernon and bumps their season record up to 6-3. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.0 points over those games. As for North Posey, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Mt. Vernon and North Posey are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Wildcats will head out to take on Southridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Vernon will need to watch out since the Raiders have now posted at least 31 points in their last three contests. As for North Posey, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pike Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings will be up against the Chargers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 42.11 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
