Softball Game Preview: Saint Joseph Jesters vs. St. Paul Swordsmen

Saint Joseph is 1-9 against St. Paul since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Jesters will take on the Swordsmen at 3:15 p.m. Saint Joseph is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Saint Joseph proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Paul, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Jesters have posted since March 25th.

Eris Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Morgan Mora, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Becerra, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Saint Joseph has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for St. Paul, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-12.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Saint Joseph hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .412. However, it's not like St. Paul struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
