Basketball Recap: Denver East Piles Up the Points Against Vista PEAK Prep

Denver East had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Vista PEAK Prep Bison 73-31. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 83-41 victory back in February.

Denver East's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grace Hall, who went 8-for-12 en route to 24 points along with six boards and four steals. Hall's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Evelina Otto, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Denver East smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 37 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Vista PEAK Prep's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amirah Pena, who posted 12 points and three steals. Pena has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Knakai Starks was another key player, putting up six points in addition to ten boards and three blocks.

Denver East pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.9 points over those games. As for Vista PEAK Prep, their record is now 8-13.

Denver East has already played their next match, a 60-43 victory against Northfield on the 22nd. As for Vista PEAK Prep, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-51 win against Rangeview on the 21st.
