Baseball Recap: Franklin-Simpson Victorious

Franklin-Simpson saw some tournament action on Monday. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Halifax County Comets. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Jordan Brandon tossed a big game, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. He has become a key player for Franklin-Simpson: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Brady Delk was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Griff Banton, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

The win got Franklin-Simpson back to even at 6-6. As for Halifax County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Franklin-Simpson will be playing at home against Lincoln County at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.69 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Halifax County, they will head out to face off against Martinsville at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
