Waverly faced Marian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Vikings walked away with a 2-0 win over the Crusaders. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Gracie Lauenstein paced Waverly's offense, picking up 13 kills. Lauenstein got some help from McKinley Moser and her 24 assists. Lauenstein was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.
Despite the loss, Marian saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sami Curnyn had eight assists and seven digs.
Waverly's victory bumped their record up to 22-2. As for Marian, with the defeat, they broke their seven-match winning streak and moved their record to 21-7.
Waverly has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Lincoln North Star on the 4th. As for Marian, they will welcome Lincoln Southwest at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
