MaxPreps Top 25 national high school basketball rankings: Hamilton Heights Christian Academy, Minnehaha Academy each drop with loss

No. 15 Bishop Gorman goes for ninth consecutive state title as postseason action heats up around the country.

This marks the sixth consecutive week a Top 5 team in the MaxPreps Top 25 national high school basketball rankings has been upset. Previous No. 5 Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (Chattanooga, Tenn.) dropped a 93-83 overtime loss to The Rock (Gainesville, Fla.) — a defeat that likely bursts the Hawks' GEICO Nationals bubble.

Unbeaten Eden Prairie (Minn.) is the biggest mover in the national rankings, ascending into the Top 10 this week after being unranked two weeks ago. The Eagles jumped 13 spots this week after a signature win over previous No. 6 Minnehaha Academy (Minneapolis).

DeMatha rises three spots to No. 6 this week after capturing the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title with wins over St. John's (Washington, D.C.) and previous No. 22 Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.).



Postseason action this week that could shake up the national rankings includes the Georgia AAAAAAA state quarterfinals and semifinals, the Nevada 4A state semifinals and finals, the CIF Southern Section Open Division title game and the Texas UIL Class 5A and 6A state tournament.

1. (Last week 1) Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.), 25-0
Regular season complete. The Eagles are expected to be the top seed in GEICO Nationals.

Defeated Pebblebrook (Mableton) 67-54 to advance to the GHSA Class AAAAAAA state quarterfinals where the Rams take on Norcross on Wednesday.

Opened their quest for a fourth consecutive state title with a pair of blowout wins over Greenwood 93-49 and Blythewood 83-52. The Cavaliers face Spartanburg in Tuesday's AAAAA state quarterfinals.

4. (4) Wasatch Academy (Mt. Pleasant, Utah), 27-2
Regular season complete. The Tigers are a lock to earn an invitation to GEICO Nationals.

5. (7) Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel Aire, Kan.), 21-3
One game remains in the Buffaloes' regular season after picking up a 74-48 win over Universal Academy (Irving, Texas) last week. This group is a lock to earn its second consecutive GEICO Nationals berth.



Captured the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title, defeating previous No. 22 Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.) 70-56 after splitting their previous two meetings with the Panthers.

7. (8) Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), 36-3
Wrap up regular season play this week with a Saturday showdown against Liberty Heights (Charlotte, N.C.).

Benefiting from another week of upsets, the Crew appear to be in strong position to receive a GEICO Nationals invite.

Knocked off ISA Andrew's Osborne (Willoughby, Ohio) 74-38 last week. Lakers finish regular season play Wednesday against Aim High Academy (Cement City, Mich.).

10. (23) Eden Prairie (Minn.), 25-0
As mentioned above, the Eagles make a huge jump after taking down previous No. 6 Minnehaha Academy (Minneapolis) 78-64. Eden Prairie features a balanced attack led by four seniors with over 1,000 career points.

Escaped with a 102-101 overtime victory over Albany Academy (Albany) to win the LuHi Postseason Invitational. The Crusaders have over a month off before starting postseason play.

12. (5) Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (Chattanooga, Tenn.), 25-3
Suffered a 93-83 overtime loss at The Rock (Gainesville, Fla.) last week, hurting their case for GEICO Nationals. The Hawks head to the NACA National Championships this week.

Closed out regular season play with a pair of blowout wins over lesser opponents. The Hornets quest for a fourth consecutive state title begins this week.

Suffered their third in-state loss of the year, falling to No. 10 Eden Prairie 78-64. The Red Hawks recovered with a quality 61-53 win over DeLaSalle (Minneapolis). They close out regular season play this week.

Look to complete their quest for a ninth consecutive state title this week, facing Spanish Springs (Sparks) on Thursday in Class 4A state semifinals before a potential state title game on Friday.

Two-time defending CIF Open Division state champions closed out CIF Southern Section Open Division pool play unbeaten with a 73-62 victory over Etiwanda. The Trailblazers take on Mater Dei (Santa Ana) in the Southern Section title game on Friday.

17. (17) Camden (N.J.), 24-1
One regular-season game remains as elite freshman D.J. Wagner continues to impress, posting a season-high 32 points in a 76-52 victory over Paul VI (Haddonfield) last week.



Lost grudge match 76-63 against Mount St. Joseph (Baltimore) in the MIAA Conference A title game. The Panthers begin Baltimore Catholic League conference tournament play Wednesday against Calvert Hall (Baltimore).

19. (18) Poly (Baltimore), 20-2
Begin MPSSAA Class 3A state title run this week. The Engineers are heavy favorites to win a fourth consecutive state title.

20. (19) IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), 19-6
Regular season complete. The defending national champions are a long shot to earn a GEICO Nationals bid.

21. (21) Duncanville (Texas), 27-3
The defending Class 6A state champions opened state tournament play with a 68-56 victory over South Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie).

Defeated Steele (Cibolo) 59-49 in their first round contest of the Class 6A state tournament.

23. (25) Lancaster (Texas), 30-2
After ending the year on a 29-game winning streak, the Tigers open Class 5A state tournament play Tuesday against Cleburne.



Enters the Top 25 for the first time this season, capturing the New Jersey Prep A State title 68-66 over Blair Academy (Blairtown).

Join the national rankings for the first time with one regular-season game remaining. The Panthers take on Northview (Brazil) on Thursday before beginning their journey to capture the Class 4A crown.
