Baseball Game Preview: Cleburne County Tigers vs. Jacksonville Golden Eagles

Cleburne County is 2-8 against Jacksonville since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cleburne County Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Jacksonville Golden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Cleburne County's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Jacksonville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Tuesday. Cleburne County came out on top against Handley by a score of 6-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Jacob Pentecost spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cade Shubert, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Gabe Wickersham, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Jacksonville fell victim to Oxford and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellow Jackets. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Golden Eagles were not able to get on the board.

Cleburne County's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Jacksonville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.
