Baseball Recap: Spanish Fork Wins Going Away Against Cedar Valley

Spanish Fork won the last time they faced Cedar Valley and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Dons blew past the Aviators 9-2. The Dons not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 8th (when they won 9-1).

Matai Johnson tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Spanish Fork is 2-1 when Johnson allows two or fewer hits, but 2-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nixon Warren, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. Rhythm Fagan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Spanish Fork's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-12. As for Cedar Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Spanish Fork will take on Emery at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cedar Valley will be paying especially close attention to the Dons' contest: after the Dons face off against the Spartans, they'll take on Cedar Valley again at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
