Softball Recap: La Cueva Picks Up Tenth Consecutive Victory

La Cueva came tearing into Monday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They didn't even let the Manzano Monarchs on the board, marking their second-straight 21-0 shutout. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by ten runs or more this season.

Liliana Montoya made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Genesis Jaramillo was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Alex Fox, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

La Cueva was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .640. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in 11 consecutive matchups.

La Cueva's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Manzano, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Cueva will challenge Eldorado at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bears will need to watch out since the Golden Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last six games. As for Manzano, they will face off against Albuquerque Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
