Basketball Recap: Leah Askins Dieterich's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ottawa over Tonganoxie

Ottawa was the 47-14 winner over Tonganoxie when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Ottawa Cyclones fell just short of the Tonganoxie Chieftains by a score of 49-46 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cyclones have suffered against the Chieftains since January 4, 2019.

Ottawa lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Leah Askins Dieterich, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Hadley Watts was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Ottawa fell to 4-1. As for Tonganoxie, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Ottawa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-45 victory against Baldwin on the 14th. Tonganoxie has also already played their next contest, a 51-36 win against Pleasant Ridge on the 13th.
