Baseball Recap: Seventy-First Comes Up Short

Seventy-First had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-18 to make it five. They lost 14-3 to the Gray's Creek Bears. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bears this season, with their most recent loss being a 10-0 defeat on April 1st.

Seventy-First saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Melendez, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Gray's Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.

On Gray's Creek's side, Gunner Sterling was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Williams, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Seventy-First does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gray's Creek, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Cape Fear at 6:00 p.m. The Colts' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
