Basketball Recap: Matanzas Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Matanzas can now relate to. They were beaten by the Buchholz Bobcats 67-35 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 433rd, while the Bobcats are ranked 191st).

Leading Buchholz to victory were Alessia Chaves-Torres and Kennedy Wyckoff. Chaves-Torres went 7 of 12 on her way to 16 points, while Wyckoff went 7 for 16 en route to 17 points. Ja'Niyah Fillmore was another key player, going 5 for 8 en route to 10 points.

Matanzas has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. As for Buchholz, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-12.

Matanzas does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Buchholz, they will face off against Tocoi Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tocoi Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season.
