Baseball Recap: Melvindale Cardinals vs. Trenton Trojans
Melvindale extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 13-8 in the process. They lost 9-1 to the Trenton Trojans. If the Cardinals were looking for revenge after losing 14-4 to the Trojans when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Trenton, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-3. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
For Trenton's part, Brennan Gulliver and Easton Demers were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Gulliver pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Demers pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Gulliver went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Demers got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run. That's the most RBI Gulliver has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other pitching news, Luke Kowal looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Carson Boike was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Lukas Totten also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
While Melvindale had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
