Baseball Game Preview: East Rutherford Cavaliers vs. East Lincoln Mustangs

The East Rutherford Cavaliers will face off against the East Lincoln Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. East Rutherford will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

If East Rutherford beats East Lincoln with 11 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Cavaliers were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Hendersonville on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Cavaliers, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, East Lincoln narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past West Iredell 11-10. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Evan Matile was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Matthew Phuntek was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: East Lincoln kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.

East Rutherford pushed their record up to 18-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for East Lincoln, their record is now 14-5.

Everything went East Rutherford's way against East Lincoln when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as East Rutherford made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavaliers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
