Softball Recap: Dawson Takes Down Hubbard in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Dawson had no problem doing just that on Monday. They walked away with a 14-11 win over the Hubbard Jaguars. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Laney Cates spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and 11 unearned) runs on ten hits.

On the hitting side, Chloe Boatright was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Kaylee Payne was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Dawson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Dawson's win bumped their record up to 6-19. As for Hubbard, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-11-2.

Looking ahead, Dawson will take on Italy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gladiators have averaged an impressive 14.6 runs per game this season. Hubbard does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
