Preview: O'Connor Panthers vs. Sotomayor WILDCATS

The O'Connor Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Sotomayor WILDCATS at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sotomayor took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on O'Connor, who comes in off a win.

O'Connor's seven-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They breezed by Stevens at home to the tune of 28-0.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead O'Connor to victory, but perhaps none more so than Luke Valdez, who picked up 202 receiving yards and a touchdown. Valdez is on a roll when it comes to receiving yards, as he's now posted 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Ryder Dorn was another key player, having thrown for 277 yards and onetouchdown.

Meanwhile, Sotomayor's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Brennan 38-7. While losing is never fun, Sotomayor can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 469th, while Brennan is ranked 161st).

Sotomayor's loss came about despite a quality game from Jayden Gutierrez, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown.

O'Connor's victory bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Sotomayor, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-4.

O'Connor strolled past Sotomayor in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a score of 38-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for O'Connor since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
