Softball Recap: Gorham Fayette Eagles vs. Montpelier Locomotives

Gorham Fayette extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 19 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-8 in the process. They lost 18-1 to the Montpelier Locomotives. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 24-0 to the Locomotives when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Montpelier, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-5. Considering they have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Montpelier's part, Madelyn Hopper made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Hopper has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Montpelier got a massive performance out of Hennah Beck, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Beck has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Lyla Mahan, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Montpelier is set to challenge their familiar foe Hilltop at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
