Softball Recap: Michigan City Drops Season-High Score on Hammond Central

Michigan City had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 0-6 to make it ten. They took a 29-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hammond Central. On the bright side, the 25- run effort marked Michigan City's highest-scoring contest to date.

Abby McClead was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. She also got two hits, marking her first of the season. Paulecia Isom was another key player, getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

As for Hammond Central, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.0 runs over those games.

On Hammond Central's side, Neveena Funches was a standout: she got on base in six of her seven plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Johanna Harper, who got on base in all seven of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Michigan City will face off against Merrillville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wolves are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Hammond Central, they will take on Gary West Side at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolves will also cruise into their next match with the timing on their side: the Cougars will have lost three straight heading into Tuesday's game.
