Baseball Recap: Ysleta Triumphs

After only two runs in their last game, Ysleta made sure to put some runs up on the board against Bowie on Friday. The Indians never let the Bears get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Gavin Mata made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ysleta is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-14 otherwise. Mata was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Ysleta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Ysleta's record now sits at 11-14. As for Bowie, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-18.

Ysleta will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bears: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
