Basketball Game Preview: Western Guilford Hornets vs. Grimsley Whirlies

Western Guilford and Grimsley are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2018, but not for long. The Western Guilford Hornets will take on the Grimsley Whirlies at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Western Guilford has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since January 3.

Western Guilford is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Page on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Western Guilford was outmatched by Page and fell 60-33. The Hornets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-16.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Uche Okeke, who posted five points along with five boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Sasha Taylor, who scored five points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Western Guilford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Grimsley entered their matchup against Ragsdale on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Grimsley fell to Ragsdale 43-39.

Western Guilford's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Grimsley, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5.

Things could have been worse for Western Guilford, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 67-48 loss to Grimsley when the teams last played back in January. Can Western Guilford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
