Preview: Buchholz Bobcats vs. Bishop Kenny Crusaders
The Buchholz Bobcats on the road again on Thursday and play against the Bishop Kenny Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Buchholz was able to grind out a solid victory over Vanguard, taking the game 39-30. Given Buchholz's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Vanguard is ranked 451st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Buchholz's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tionna Wilkinson led the charge by scoring 14 points. Wilkinson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jamison Cardwell, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Bishop Kenny stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They blew past Oakleaf 48-15 on the road. The victory was nothing new for Bishop Kenny as they're now sitting on three straight.
Clare Coyle was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Riley Talbert was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Buchholz's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Bishop Kenny, their victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-3.
Buchholz came up short against Bishop Kenny in their previous matchup back in December of 2016, falling 42-35. Can Buchholz avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
