Softball Recap: Waynesburg Central Takes a Loss

Waynesburg Central dropped their record down to 4-5 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Brownsville Falcons by a score of 3-2. The Raiders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Avery Davis made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ellie Makel, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases.

As for Brownsville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.

On Brownsville's side, Ava Clark spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 18 Ks. Clark has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brownsville's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Blair Long, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Coming up, Waynesburg Central will square off against Bentworth at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Bearcats' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Brownsville has already played their next game (against Washington), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
