Softball Recap: South Lyon East Drops Highest Score of Season Against Walled Lake Western

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Lyon East). Everything went their way against the Walled Lake Western Warriors on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won seven in a row.

Paulina Ankawi (2025) made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia McPherson (2026), who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Madeleine Becker (2026) was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

South Lyon East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

South Lyon East pushed their record up to 13-14 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Walled Lake Western, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.

Coincidentally, South Lyon East and Walled Lake Western will both be playing Lakeland the next time they take the field. The Warriors will host the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Cougars will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
