Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Robert Sepulveda and Christian Barajas Lead Lucerne Valley to Victory

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lucerne Valley). Everything went their way against the Baker Braves on Tuesday as the Lucerne Valley Mustangs made off with a 55-31 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Lucerne Valley was led to victory by Christian Barajas and Robert Sepulveda. Barajas dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards, while Sepulveda dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Sepulveda a new career-high in steals (three). Another player making a difference was Anthony Navarro, who posted two points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Baker's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Ortiz, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points along with five boards and three steals. Anthony Ibarra was another key player, putting up 11 points and six steals.

Lucerne Valley's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Baker, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-2.

Lucerne Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 55-18 win against Trona on the 6th. As for Baker, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-21 loss against Sandy Valley on the 6th.
