Baseball Game Preview: Lacassine Cardinals vs. Pineville Rebels

The Lacassine Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Pineville Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lacassine is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

Last Thursday, Lacassine made easy work of Episcopal of Acadiana and carried off a 16-4 victory. Considering the Cardinals have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Gabe Gott and Kane Broussard were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gott pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Broussard pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gott also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lacassine is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-10 otherwise. At bat, Gott scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Broussard scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5. Broussard has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Pat Conner, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Lacassine's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jett Conner, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Pineville didn't have quite enough to beat West Monroe on Thursday and fell 3-2. The defeat continues a trend for Pineville in their meetings with West Monroe: they've now lost six in a row.

Lacassine's record is now 9-11. As for Pineville, they now have a losing record of 11-12.
