Basketball Recap: West Tallahatchie Choctaws vs. South Delta Bulldogs
After a string of seven wins, the West Tallahatchie Choctaws's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of South Delta by a score of 65-62. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat West Tallahatchie has suffered against the Bulldogs since February 6, 2018.
West Tallahatchie's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Roosevelt Phillips, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Phillips has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Drexel Miller, who scored 16 points.
South Delta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamichael Green led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 assists. Green has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmani Lee, who scored 16 points along with five steals.
West Tallahatchie's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-7. As for South Delta, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.
West Tallahatchie won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. South Delta does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
