Softball Recap: New Miami Takes a Loss

New Miami extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-5 in the process. They lost 10-2 to the Cincinnati Country Day Nighthawks. The match marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

As for Cincinnati Country Day, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games.

For Cincinnati Country Day's part, Riley Williams made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Williams has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caroline Ochterski, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Kylee Hirschauer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.

Coming up, New Miami will take on Lockland at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 10.9 runs per game this season. As for Cincinnati Country Day, they will challenge Monroe at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
