Basketball Game Preview: Laguna Beach Breakers vs. Portola Bulldogs

Laguna Beach and Portola are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Laguna Beach Breakers will take on the Portola Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Laguna Beach is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Laguna Beach is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since December 7, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against Sage Hill, falling 62-38. While losing is never fun, the Breakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 736th, while the Lightning are ranked 262nd).

Meanwhile, Portola came into Tuesday's game having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Woodbridge by a score of 69-62 on Tuesday.

Laguna Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Portola, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-13.

Laguna Beach was able to grind out a solid victory over Portola in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, winning 70-59. Does Laguna Beach have another victory up their sleeve, or will Portola turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
