Baseball Recap: Valley Christian Extends Winning Streak to Four

Valley Christian barely beat Archbishop Riordan the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Warriors blew past the Crusaders 7-1 on Friday. Considering the Warriors have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kole Laubach looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also put up four hits, which were his first of the season.

On the hitting side, Valley Christian's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brock Ketelsen, who fired off two home runs and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave Ketelsen a new career-high. Jordan Ortiz was another, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Valley Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.

The win was the fourth in a row for Valley Christian, bringing their record up to 12-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Archbishop Riordan, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13-1 record this season.

Valley Christian will be taking part in a tournament against Aquinas at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 1.4, the Falcons 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Archbishop Riordan, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-1 win against Palo Alto on the 12th.
