Basketball Recap: Lake Gibson Comes Up Short

Lake Gibson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were dealt a 60-16 defeat at the hands of the Auburndale Bloodhounds. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Braves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-36 back in December of 2024.

Lake Gibson's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shania Benjamin, who posted six points.

Auburndale was led to victory by Makyla Jones and Aleecia Pollard. Jones dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten steals, while Pollard dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 boards. Those 24 points gave Pollard a new career-high. Journey Cummings was another key player, putting up eight points.

Lake Gibson's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Auburndale, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7.

Lake Gibson has already played their next game, a 48-45 loss against Bartow on the 23rd. As for Auburndale, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 37-29 win against Sebring on the 23rd.
