Baseball Game Preview: Battle Mountain Huskies vs. Summit Tigers

Battle Mountain is 2-8 against Summit since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Huskies will be playing at home against the Tigers at 3:00 p.m. This will be Battle Mountain's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.

Battle Mountain saw some tournament action on Saturday. They lost 13-3 to Gunnison.

Kai Tipton was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Summit ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top against Evergreen by a score of 9-5. The victory was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on five straight.

Sam Eldredge made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out 14 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hogan Tobias, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Forrest Downing, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Summit kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.

Summit's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Battle Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.

Battle Mountain couldn't quite get it done against Summit in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
