Softball Game Preview: St. Mark's Spartans vs. Indian River Indians

The St. Mark's Spartans will take on the Indian River Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Mark's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Indian River's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

St. Mark's is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Sussex Central just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Golden Knights by a score of 7-6.

Meanwhile, Indian River faced Middletown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Indians skirted past the Cavaliers 3-1.

The team relied heavily on Sophie Scurci, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

St. Mark's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Indian River, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-9.

St. Mark's beat Indian River 6-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
