Basketball Preview: Socorro Warriors vs. Hatch Valley Bears
After three games on the road, Socorro is heading back home. They will take on the Hatch Valley Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
After only eight points in their last contest, Socorro made sure to put some points up on the board against the Bobcats on Saturday. Socorro blew past the Bobcats 61-39.
Hatch Valley has not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They snuck past Santa Teresa with a 47-43 victory on Saturday.
Hatch Valley found their leader in underclassman Caydence Roberts, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. Sophia Holguin was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Socorro's victory ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-15. As for Hatch Valley, they pushed their record up to 6-12 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Everything went Socorro's way against the Bears when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the Warriors made off with a 39-16 victory. Does Socorro have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
