Softball Recap: Minarets Mustangs vs. Chowchilla Tribe

Minarets extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-11 in the process. They lost 19-7 to the Chowchilla Tribe. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Tribe when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Zaphara Byron-Hamilton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Chowchilla, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

On Chowchilla's side, Lexyss Sabin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sabin has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Rylee Vlot was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. April Miller also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Chowchilla has already played their next game, a 4-3 loss against Liberty on the 30th. Hopefully Minarets paid attention to the Tribe's contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Tribe at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
