Basketball Recap: Cristo Rey Comes Up Short

Cristo Rey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Collegiate Cougars and fell 70-39. The Royals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Cristo Rey saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jemell Smith posted 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jab Scott, who earned eight points.

Cristo Rey's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Collegiate, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-3.

Cristo Rey has already played their next matchup, an 81-69 loss against Veritas Collegiate Academy on the 14th. As for Collegiate, they will head out to square off against Freeman at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th.
