League recap: Sonora stuns Buena Park in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Sonora, who took down 302nd ranked Buena Park, 30-14. Kyle Mahlstede threw for 96 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 35 yards in the win.

The Raiders moved up to 459 from 522 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Freeway. Sonora was able to make the jump by beating the Coyotes 30-14.

Kyle Blumer and Dallas Parent gave Troy a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Blumer threw for 144 yards and three touchdowns, while Parent ran for 136 yards. Nathan Fleming also contributed to the rushing game with 12 yards on the ground.

Dallas Trillo was the best wideout in the league this week as Fullerton bested Sunny Hills. Trillo racked up five receptions for 123 yards. Damani Roberts helped Fullerton's passing attack out by catching one ball for 13 yards.

Scott Lloyd provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Indians topped the Lancers. He completed nine passes for 152 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 82 yards.

6-foot-2 quarterback Lloyd of Fullerton is the league leader in passing yards this season with 901. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, Buena Park's Deven Boston has rushed for 1141 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Nate Miranda. The Sonora star has 18 catches for 386 yards.

The top two teams in Freeway will face off this week when first place Buena Park takes on second place Troy. Anthony White's team lost to Paul Chiotti's team last week, while the Warriors fell to La Habra.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Coyotes take on Troy. Buena Park has allowed 64 points this season, while Kevin Hastin's team has given up 87. The Coyotes allowed 30 points last week as they lost to the Raiders.

The Highlanders and the Warriors played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Highlanders eventually emerging with a 20-19 victory.
