Basketball Recap: Fort Myers Green Wave vs. Port Charlotte Pirates
Fort Myers was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a blow against the Port Charlotte Pirates, falling 71-21. While losing is never fun, the Green Wave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 406th, while the Pirates are ranked 64th).

Despite the loss, Fort Myers saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Juliya Smith posted four points along with ten rebounds and six blocks. Smith is crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Port Charlotte to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maggie Parent, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 boards. Those 13 rebounds gave Parent a new career-high. Hailey Cohen was another key player, dropping a triple-double on ten points, 11 boards, and 14 assists.
Fort Myers' defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Port Charlotte, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.
Fort Myers wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 75-33 loss against Palmetto Ridge on the 23rd. Port Charlotte has also already played their next game, a 1-0 win against IMG Academy Blue on the 24th.
