Baseball Recap: Camelback Comes Up Short

Camelback extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 24 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-17 in the process. They came up short against the Marcos de Niza Padres, falling 21-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Padres this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-0 back in February.

Camelback saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Freddy Romero, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. Marcus Vera was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

As for Marcos de Niza, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 7-13 record. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the game before.

On Marcos de Niza's side, Elijah Abril spent all four innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Marcos de Niza let Jackson Matherson and Julien Arroyo run wild. Matherson went 3-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and two runs, while Arroyo went 3-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits Matherson has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gilbert Fuerte, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Camelback has already played their next matchup, a 12-2 win against South Mountain on the 14th. As for Marcos de Niza, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-3 victory against Goldwater on the 14th.
