Softball Recap: Ridgewood's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Ridgewood had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They won by a run and slipped past the Elgin Maroons 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rebels have posted since April 11, 2024.

Megan Moe was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexandra Chaparro, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season. Lilly Pedd was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Ridgewood hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

Ridgewood's record now sits at 8-15. As for Elgin, they dropped their record down to 5-22 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home.

Ridgewood and Elgin could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Rebels (ranked 406th) will meet Resurrection (ranked 168th) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Elgin will square off against Lake Park at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (499 vs. 12).
