Baseball Preview: Irvington Vikings vs. Moreau Catholic Mariners

The Irvington Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Moreau Catholic Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Irvington will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Even though Kennedy scored an imposing ten runs last Thursday, Irvington still came out on top. Irvington skirted past Kennedy 11-10. That's two games straight that Irvington has won by just one run.

Irvington got a great performance from Bijan Bozorg-Chami as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Bozorg-Chami has been consistent recently: he hasn't pitched less than five innings in four consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brayden Jaksa, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Ryan Johnson was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Moreau Catholic can finally bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Mt. Eden.

Luke Gervais was excellent, going 1-for-2 with a home run.

Irvington's win ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-7. As for Moreau Catholic, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-8.
