Volleyball Game Preview: Woburn Memorial Tanners vs. Salem Witches

The Woburn Memorial Tanners will face off against the Salem Witches at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Woburn Memorial is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.

Woburn Memorial won the last time they faced Greater Lawrence Tech, and Mateo Qirjazi did his part to make sure it happened again. The Tanners came out on top against the Reggies by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday thanks in part to Qirjazi, who had 43 assists and five kills. He is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 17 or more in each of the last 17 games he's played.

Woburn Memorial was actually outscored in aggregate across those four sets (98-97), but they still managed to win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 30-28, 16-25, 25-21, 26-24.

Meanwhile, Salem posted their closest victory since May 22, 2024 on Tuesday. They skirted past KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate 3-2.

Salem was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-23, 15-6.

Woburn Memorial's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Salem, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-14.

Woburn Memorial beat Salem 3-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Tanners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Witches turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
