Basketball Recap: Holmes Comes Up Short at Home Against Currituck County

Holmes unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were dealt a 78-44 loss at the hands of the Currituck County Knights on Thursday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Several Aces players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tucker Baldwin, who posted 15 points. Baldwin is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was J'Breyon Gilliam, who had six points along with nine rebounds and three steals.

It was another big night for Jamie Dance, who went 11-for-22 to rack up 29 points in addition to seven boards and five steals for Currituck County. That makes it four consecutive games in which Dance has scored at least a third of the Knights' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Peterson, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Currituck County and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Holmes didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 76-37 victory against Bear Grass Charter on the 15th. As for Currituck County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, an 84-70 loss against South Central on the 12th.
