Soccer Game Preview: Homer vs. Monroe Catholic

The Homer Mariners will take on the Monroe Catholic Rams at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Homer heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Friday. They fell 3-1 to Soldotna. The defeat continues a trend for Homer in their meetings with Soldotna: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, Monroe Catholic faced Kenai Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Rams fell just short of the Kardinals by a score of 2-1. Monroe Catholic's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Their goal came courtesy of Mylee Nafpliotis, who's now up to 21 this season.

Homer's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9-1. As for Monroe Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.

Homer was able to grind out a solid win over Monroe Catholic in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 2-0. Will the Mariners repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
